Kristina assesses conditions before taking flight from the SE launch in Sapiranga, RS, Brazil

Rio Grande do Sul

CLOUD HOPPING IN BRAZIL'S DEEP SOUTH

Brazil's southern tip is home to a unique culture and terrain.  From the Atlantic coast you will find beaches and wetlands which slowly give way to rolling hills and rivers, then suddenly an incredible cliff band marking the coastal range.  From here the terrain climbs to the sometimes snow-covered high country before leveling off and giving way to a thousand plus miles of unbroken flatland flying. It's at the south western corner of this cliff line, among waterfalls, toucans, and howler monkeys, that we reside for ten days of cloud hopping in the humid, friendly air over Morro Ferrabraz in Sapiranga.  Our hotel is in the city of Novo Hamburgo 20 minutes away from launch, and at night we can take advantage of the food and nightlife of the larger town.

CROSS COUNTRY PARADISE - JURASSIC TERRAIN

By now, the sites in ES state are well known after many seasons of high level competition.  Because of all these events, free flight infrastructure has reached peak paragliding destination quality.  Ideal for anything from big XC to fantastic hike and flying, we will tailor trips here to each particular group.  Our April 2026 trip will focus on advanced XC flying and be 'rally' format - moving site to site every other day for ten days to experience everything the state has to offer.  Join us for a scenic advanced tour!

Andradas, MG, Brazil on a stunner of a cross country paragliding day

Minas Gerais

SOME OF THE MOST CLASSIC FLYING IN ALL OF BRAZIL

For me personally, this is one of the most beautiful regions of Brazil.  The "interior" within the state of Minas Gerais is dominated by rolling hills of coffee and other fragrant crops on a foundation of rich red soil which occasionally twists its way up from the ground on its way to the clouds in stunning dust devils.  Typically light winds prevail during the ideal season, and although it's not uncommon to have a shower in the evenings, it's only due to the clouds being so incredibly fantastic that they once in a while overflow! Home of the endless thermal, the ramp of Pico do Gavião is our primary launch and is a stunning 800+ meters above the south LZ. We stay either in the town of Andradas or on the chilly plateau just below the north launch in a cozy B&B.  A true free flying paradise.

The fine print

How do these tours work?

We work with some of the best pilots and instructors as guides, we keep client to coach ratio low (4 or fewer), and we radio-guide in the air from launch to landing, striving to maximize each day's conditions.  Our depth of knowledge brings meaningful briefings and debriefs and helps our clients make solid progress on every flight.

Why come with us and not go solo?  Besides having nothing to worry about except waking up and flying every day while all the logistics are sorted by us,  having guidance from coaches with so much experience over so many years is the key to unlocking skills that would otherwise take many seasons.

Once we've confirmed your spot on a tour, you will need to take care of your own itinerary, just making sure you arrive/depart within our pickup and drop-off window specified in our emails.  Everything else is taken care of once you arrive in Brazil.

Some points to consider:

  • Travel medical insurance is recommended.  This landscape is constantly changing, so confirm that your plan covers paragliding in Brazil.
  • Bring a gps rescue device.  Spot, Inreach, etc, and make sure it's activated and subscribed.
  • Radios are an integral part of these trips; bringing more than one is recommended.  Make sure you have clear comms (both transmitting and receiving) BEFORE joining us in Brazil. Headsets are really the way to go and we can provide recommendations for reliable setups in advance of travel.
  • It's hot down there!  Bring sunscreen, but also definitely bring a jacket.  Weather is variable, particularly in the south of Brazil, and we occasionally need a jacket and pants.
  • Buy your Brazilian reais (BRL) at the airport atm; it's the best exchange we've found.  I usually go ahead and exchange 500 usd there.  Better to have more than you need, and we're happy to buy leftover BRL back from you at the end of the trip.
  • Visa required as of April 10, 2025.  This is a moving target, but safe to say a visa will be required for the foreseeable future. It's much easier than it used to be however, being entirely online and running around $80 usd. One notable new requirement: your passport must have been valid for one month PRIOR to applying for the visa, and must be valid at least through the duration of your stay in Brazil.
  • A 50% deposit is required to secure your spot on a tour.  These deposits are necessary for reserving rooms and securing the services of our driver/vehicles.  Within 30 days of our start date, these funds are non-refundable.  If you or we are able to fill that slot with another  suitable and qualified pilot before the tour begins, we would then be able to refund the deposit.
